The Unborn Victims of Violence Act was signed into law on April 1, 2004, toward the end of
George W. Bush's first term of office. What it states is this: If a violent crime is committed against an expectant mother,
and the fetus is injured or killed as a result of the violent act against the mother, The perpetrator will be charged with
a separate crime. For example, if someone assaults an expectant mother, and the fetus dis as a result, then the perpetrator
would be charged with agrivated assault (to the mother), plus murder (fetus).
